ZEUS APHRODITE HADES ATHENA
Process
Step 1: In groups of four, each member should choose ONE of the four Greek gods/goddesses that you can see above. You will have to research this god/goddess, and also act as that individual in your play.
Step 2: Research the god's myths in the links below. Your entire team should also look at the link about Greek culture & society, as it will help you understand the differences between Greek & modern society:
-Zeus:
-Aphrodite:
-Hades:
-Athena
-Greek Society
Step 3: Define your god/goddess' personality along with their weaknesses and strengths. Write a one-page reflection taking into account the following questions:
Then give your description to another teammate. Your teammate will read this (as an editor) and will give you feedback on your draft. Use the feedback and rewrite the draft. You will need the final draft you wrote here in Step 5. Peer-editing is a very interestig experience, you can see the following links and get some ideas to start editing your teammate god/goddess description.
Step 4: Imagine that a time machine sent your god/goddess forward to 2011. How would they interact with one another in the 21st century? What would his/her function be in the play? Be creative and think about how these gods/goddesses would relate to one another as well.
As a group, decide on 1-2 everyday problems or situations to discuss in your play. This problem or situation needs to be one that your gods will be able to overcome, and it also needs to be a problem that would not be familiar in the Greek society. Some examples of these problems are:
Step 5: With your previous description of your Greek god/goddess, you must create a fictional play with them, while also taking into account the problem or the central issue to be resolved. Your play will begin with a description about how the gods traveled through time to 2011. They will then have to confront issues of modern society, which differ from the issues of Greek society. You will perform these plays in class, so you should prepare to act as your chosen god/goddess. Please remember the following rules before beginning to write the play:
1. It must have at least two scenes;
2. All the gods must interact with each other;
3. You should make sure to include the actions and emotions of each character. It should not be just a dialogue between characters. For example: ATHENA: (Angry. ATHENA walks towards Zeus) Why did you do that?
4. Write the play using at least 5 indefinite articles. Use these additional resources to learn about grammar rules relating to indefinite articles:
5. In the conversation you must include false cognates. You should remember your god/goddess doesn't belong to this century, so they are going to have communication conflict with other speakers. Each god must use at least three false cognates. Use these additional resources to learn about false cognates :
